Joseph Laurino, PhD, MBA

President, CEO, CSO

Dr. Laurino is the president and founder of Periodic Products, and the inventor of this polymer technology. He has extensive experience conducting biomedical research for several Fortune 100 companies, and has orchestrated the development, FDA approval, and production of eight medical device products generating in excess of $300 million in gross revenues. Dr. Laurino is also vice-president of VitalFlor, Inc., a developer of imaging devices for the microbiology laboratory market. Prior to his current position at Periodic Products, Dr. Laurino was a professor of chemistry at the University of Tampa, the director of operations and a corporate officer at Spectral Diagnostics, Inc., a Toronto, Canada and Virginia-based developer and manufacturer of point of care cardiac diagnostic test products. Prior to that, he was the senior vice-president of research and development for ABS, a publicly traded biotechnology company specializing in pharmaceuticals and medical devices. He was also a clinical laboratory director and clinical assistant professor at Brown University’s Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, and has held senior scientist positions at Technicon Instruments Company (now Bayer Diagnostics) and Roche Diagnostics, Inc.  Dr. Laurino received a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Virginia, an MBA with highest honors from the University of Tampa, and his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Georgetown University. He has been awarded both National Institutes of Health and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Fellowships, received over $1.5M in grant funding from various agencies, and has authored or co-authored over 65 papers, books, and abstracts. He is currently listed in the 2010 and 2011 Editions of Marquis Who’s Who in America, and in the 2011 Edition of Marquis Who’s Who in The World.
