Periodic Products Awarded Brazilian Patent for Metal Recovery and Related Technologies

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fort Lauderdale, FL – December 2, 2019

Periodic Products Inc. announced today that it has been awarded a Brazilian Letters Patent (PI0819710-5) for its metal chelation, water purification and metal recovery technologies.

Mining and mineral products account for approximately 2% of Brazil’s GDP. The South American nation is also the world’s second-largest exporter of iron ore, and is home to large deposits of copper, bauxite, niobium, nickel and gold.

Mining waste and acid effluent – unavoidable consequences of mining activities – are typically collected in tailing ponds. Brazil has suffered two mining tailing pond breaches: the Mariana dam failure in November 2015, and the Brumadinho dam failure in January 2019. The latter event alone released approximately 12 million cubic meters of tailings; both contaminated significant areas with arsenic, lead, mercury and other metals.

The new patent represents an important market opportunity for the Company, as well as a potential environmental asset for Brazil, according to Joseph Laurino, Ph.D., President and CEO of Periodic Products.

“We are extremely pleased that Brazil has granted the Company this patent,” Laurino acknowledged. “Since the time of our initial application filing, we further developed our technology to incorporate remediation of mining tailing pond and acidic mine drainage.”
